One of the oldest of its kind
The monastery kitchen
Where? In the cloister in room 9
What? This is where the Dominican nuns who lived in the convent used to cook. The monastery kitchen from 1260 is one of the oldest of its kind in Germany. In addition, the outer walls consist of the last remains of the oldest city wall in Rothenburg from the 13th century.
What is worth a closer look? In addition to the age of the church, two elements in the monastery kitchen of the RothenburgMuseum stand out: The revolving drawer with the revolving barrel served as a hatch for the needy, beggars and pilgrims. And on the present wooden staircase was once the dumbwaiter to the residents’ dining area.
